Jose Rodriguez
Chef Jose’s culinary journey began in Mexico City, where he was inspired to cook by following his family’s cherished recipes. As an adult, he honed his skills working for well-known restaurants across Arizona and California, where he rose to the position of Sous Chef. His deep-rooted Mexican heritage and desire to thrive in the community led him to focus on Mexican cuisine. Certified in the restaurant business, Chef Jose specializes in opening restaurant businesses that deliver unique customer experiences. His journey from his first kitchen job to his current role has been driven by a passion for blending flavors and textures and a continuous desire to learn new techniques.
Chef Jose’s cultural and culinary influences are reflected in the traditional family recipes he has incorporated into the Maguey Taco Bar menu, such as Tacos Gobernador and Pastor, Mole, Enchiladas Potosinas, Esquite Street Corn, and the Tijuana Style Caesar Salad. His cooking style and philosophy revolve around offering authentic southern Mexican cuisine, emphasizing scratch-made dishes. Chef Jose’s dedication to his craft and his ability to work seamlessly with his team has made him an integral part of Maguey Taco Bar’s success.

Fernando Bernal
Fernando’s journey in the bartending industry began in 1993, driven by a passion for specialty drinks and the spirits industry. Working for the restaurant and hospitality business, Fernando has always been drawn to creating personable experiences for his customers while exploring exquisite flavors. His artisanal training in specialty drinks and spirits has equipped him with the skills necessary to excel in his craft. At Maguey Taco Bar, Fernando brings his wealth of knowledge and expertise to create unique and memorable cocktails for patrons.
One of Fernando’s favorite cocktails to craft at Maguey Taco Bar is the Lavender Guava Margarita, which has become a signature drink representing the bar’s vibrant spirit. His personal creation, “La Paloma,” showcases his innovative approach, blending Mezcal, Gin, Lime Juice, Grapefruit soda, and Agave nectar. Fernando prefers using fresh ingredients and citrus fruits to achieve the best flavors, avoiding syrups and purees.
